ED'S UNSOLICITED ADVICE: I'm never without a FULL-SINKING FLY LINE. Drive to a favorite trout stream only to find it off-color from the rain. NO PROBLEM. I rig 4-feet of 4x or 5x fluorocarbon tippet right off the end of the line. Tie an over-hand knot 15-inches above the fly and seat the knot tight. I put a split-shot above the knot, preventing it from slipping down to my size-12 F-C Crackleback while I knock 'em silly "skipping" it just off the bottom with my rod tip. The line, the fly and method will never fail you. Try the same method with F-C Rabbit Leeches, F-C Marabou Streamers and more.
BOB'S UNSOLICITED ADVICE: Apply my dad's method to smallmouth. I used a full-sinking Type-4 line on a warm water secrtion of the Meramec River here in Missouri on Sunday (7-6-08). I used a 3-4 foot tippet right off the end of the fly line with a Madam-X dangling off the end. Skipping it deep and slowly (as described above) I took one smallmouth and goggle-eye after another inbetween the canoe hatch. Best was about 16", and the action was consistant throughout the half mile or so that I waded.

| Sa Sharkskin Trout Wf Item # FA001 |
$99.95 |
SA SHARKSKIN 'ULTIMATE TROUT TAPER' DRY-TIP Floating Fly Lines with STREAMLINED LOOP INSTALLED. WF3F thru WF8F in COLORS: (1)Chartreuse, (2)Blue-Heron.
Groundbreaking lines that yield greatly improved line-to-water floatation, casting performance, overall line suppleness and durability. The Sharkskin texturing process allows lines to sit higher in the water for less drag, easier mending, roll casting, and pick-ups. Line friction in the guides is greatly reduced; shoot distance is increased for longer, easier casts-even when the line is dirty. This line SINGS through the guides!! » We recommend using finger protection with Sharkskin and Mastery Texturted Fly Lines, especially when stripping streamers or saltwater patterns.

| Scientific Anglers Wet Tip Clear Item # FA013 |
$74.95 |
MASTERY "WET TIP" CLEAR INTERMEDIATE Clear "invisible" tip sinks a SLOW 1.5-2-ips. WF4F/S thru WF9F/S in Mist-Green/Clear.
If you don't own a Sinking Line or Sink Tip line, you're not prepared. These lines have a sinking-tip section that varies in length relative to the line weight. HOW I FISH SINKING LINE: You can clean out a pool (please don't) "SKIPPING" the size-12 F-C Crackleback on a 4-ft, 4x tippet right off the end of the loop in the line. Let the fly sink, then begin skipping it as you would a streamer, with your rod tip a couple feet over the water. I only use "moving" fly patterns with sinking lines (F-C Cracklebacks, F-C Rabbit Leeches, Streamers etc). It's a deadly method.
