CLEARWATER ZIP WADERS

New at Feather Craft: the Orvis Men's Clearwater Zip Waders. Built off one of Orvis's bestselling designs, these zip-front waders add a YKK AQUASEAL waterproof zipper up front, so getting in and out on the water is faster and far less of a wrestling match.

BLOG: THE BENCH

THE POINT OF IT ALL

Every fly you tie is a delivery system for one small piece of bent wire. Fish it a thousand times and the shape of that wire, its gape, its point, its barb, decides more of your season than any dubbing blend ever will.

Original handwritten Crackleback fly pattern sheet by Ed Story
ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI

SINCE 1955

Feather Craft has served fly anglers and fly tiers from St. Louis since 1955. Our history was built by people who understood that the best gear, materials, and fly patterns prove their worth over time. The original handwritten sheet shown here records the Crackleback, created by Feather Craft founder Ed Story in 1952. Ed wrote the recipe and illustrated the fly by hand, preserving the details of a remarkably versatile pattern that can be fished dry on the surface, stripped below it, or swung through the current. More than seven decades later, anglers across the country still tie and fish the Crackleback.

The sheet represents the practical knowledge, careful instruction, and respect for enduring ideas that have guided Feather Craft from its earliest catalogs to the shop we are today. Our staff carries that tradition forward by helping anglers choose equipment and materials through firsthand experience, honest advice, and an uncompromising standard of performance.
